My journey to understand more deeply the power of nutritional science started with a home-study course in nutrition. I quickly realised I wanted to know more and so relocated to the UK from Southern Africa to study further.

I fast-tracked through the BSc degree in 2 years and then completed an MSc in Personalised Nutrition with the Centre for Nutrition Education and Lifestyle Management (CNELM) in 2013.

To help empower behaviour change in my clients, I qualified as a Neuro-Linguistic Practitioner (NLP).

I then completed my Metabolic Balance® Training in June 2013 to provide clients with a personalised and structured plan for weight loss.

Functional Medicine, as a personalised, science-based approach, provided the framework for my degree and I wanted to delve further into this paradigm. I consequently continued my training with the Institute of Functional Medicine and after completing their advanced modules and exam process, in November 2019 became a Certified Practitioner.

Passion for nutrition

My foray into nutrition started in a tented safari camp in the middle of Botswana’s northern Selinda region. An unusual beginning for sure.

I had recently married a safari guide and followed my new husband into the bush. While he was out on game drive, I was, well in short… in the kitchen!

Without knowing, it was the start of my new passion into food and the impact it has on our health.

There were no fast food outlets – everything was made from scratch including making homemade yogurt and mayonnaise. Although the volume of food was large from early breakfasts to three-course dinners including tea, game drive snacks etc., it was a natural, whole food diet with fresh supplies being flown (or driven) into the camp regularly.

After four years in the bush we moved to Windhoek, Namibia where after a brief stint of travel consulting I launched my own business with an aim to provide Windhoek with tasty and healthy alternatives to the standard red meat and potatoes. I had the business for 6 years, and it evolved through various stages from starting with just four tables in the local gym to an attractive and popular 100-seat café. The business was considered a pioneer in offering fresh and healthy food in town and I loved devising the constantly changing menu.

But it was the yearning for further nutritional knowledge that spurred a selling of the business and a relocation to the UK to continue studying.

Areas of interest

My own interest in sport, and running in particular, has led to a natural interest in Sports Nutrition, particularly endurance events, having run marathons myself.

My MSc thesis was sports nutrition focused looking at the effects of physical exercise on the depletion of vitamins and minerals.

The other areas of focus in my clinic work include digestive dysfunction, adrenal and stress support, weight management, sports nutrition and cardiovascular and metabolic health.
